Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai

The trek over, we still had a couple of days to spend in Chiang Mai (CM). After a day of chilling with a few hours online, we decided we wanted to watch some thai boxing and headed for the red district where we were told we could watch some for free. We stopped for a burger, passed a stretch of about 200m with hookers and dodgy bars, crossed the night market where we bargained for bits and pieces and settled at the terrace of a bar just beside the ring. We watched a few fights which were very intense and entertaining! After a couple of fights there was even a lady boy show!

The next day we hired a scooter and hit the road! We climbed to a temple where we had a very nice view of CM. We also got lost and struggled on some uphills sections where Nic had to come off the bike and walk. It was much cooler at that altitude!

The next day we were on the move again and reached Chiang Rai(CR) in the early afternoon. The vibe was not as good from the start and as we had booked a cycling tour the next day we decided to cut it short and stay 2 rather than 3 nights.

The cycling tour was very nice and very well organised. We cycled 40k on roads/dirt tracks across rice paddies, stopped here and there to look at temples and walked 4km at the end to CR highest waterfall at the end. Also it did rain a fair bit and we got a good soaking but enjoyed anyway!
Today we crossed the border into Laos and will head to Luang Prabang on a slow boat over the next 2 days.
