Days 1-4, Bangkok

Hello from stifling Bangkok! We arrived safely on Thursday, long flight, long day but got there in the end. We started with a crazy pink taxi from the airport which was the beginning of the scary driving in Bangkok. Have also experienced a tuk-tuk ride but soon discovered they're generally more of a rip-off than a taxi!

The guesthouse we're staying at is, luckily, not directly on Khao San Road which is a very busy, backpacker tourist hub. Fun, but gets a bit mental after a short experience of people constantly asking if you want 'thai massage', 'Armani suit' or 'very strong cocktails'.

We've done some of the obvious tourist activities - sightseeing the Grand Palace and temples, floating markets and have already had thunder & lightening with the heaviest rain I've seen for a long long time. Food is nice, including the street food and lots of beer which is nice and cheap also!

I've yet to master the art of bargaining for prices of anything from taxi to market goods - I feel too bad for the people to try and get them cheaper so that's where Bastien comes in - he's much better at that than me!

Anyway, one more evening here and then we head north to Chiang Mai tomorrow evening on an overnight train. I am certainly looking forward to getting out of the busy, polluted city to see some country sites!
